Financial planning refers to the process of making appropriate decisions concerning one’s assets in order to pursue financial goals in life. It can involve a variety of different strategies, but the overall goal is to determine how to build and manage assets and how to plan for the future. Working with clients to create a financial strategy, I strive to help clients establish their short and long-term goals in life, determine their assets and liabilities, and evaluate their current financial position. From there, I work together with my clients to develop and implement a financial roadmap.
Typically, clients planning for retirement are less focused on taking risks and more focused on managing and preserving their wealth. With this in mind, I help create conservative strategies with a focus on risk management. I seek to identify opportunities for building a consistent income that will last through retirement and help clients determine when they may be able to retire. The retirement income planning process often includes analyzing income sources, managing assets, determining future expenses, and estate planning. Beyond developing a retirement plan, I can offer clients advice and education on 401(k) and IRA rollovers, Social Security, long-term care insurance, and other complex financial elements of retirement.
Many individuals want to leave a legacy for their family. As clients approach and live in retirement, I can assist with their estate planning needs, including offering insight and appropriate recommendations. Estate planning is critical for ensuring one’s wishes are carried out. Without a strategy, the state will handle the assets according to probate laws and taxes can quickly add up. I can help clients identify how they want to pass on their assets, who will receive what, and when and how. Additionally, I can work with their attorneys and other professionals to help ensure an appropriate estate plan is in place.
Tax planning considers the tax implications of individual, investment, or business decisions, usually with the goal of minimizing tax liability. While decisions are rarely made solely on a tax impact, it’s important to have a working knowledge of the income or estate tax issues and costs involved. A major goal of tax planning is minimizing federal income tax liability. This can be achieved by reducing taxable income, deduction planning, investment tax planning, and year-end planning strategies. With a background in accounting, I can help clients determine appropriate ways to minimize taxes.
